PRESS Techcross ECS Wins Type Approval from CCS 2017-01-20
Techcross, a Korean leading ballast water management system (BWMS) manufacturer, received a type approval from the China Classification Society (CCS) for its ECS (Electro-Cleen^TM System) on December 30, 2016, and the relevant certificate was issued officially on January 17, 2017. The products approved by CCS range from ECS 150B to ECS 1000B and the explosion proof type models have been also approved. As of 2015, Chinese ship owners’ fleets account for over 10% of Merchant vessel’s tonnage all around the world and the most vessels they order are classified by CCS. With obtaining the type approval, Techcross will be capable of dealing with newbuilding projects which will be built for Chinese ship owner for the future, as well as retrofit projects accounting for more than 10% of World's Merchant ships tonnage. Some classification societies request a plan approval only. However, in case of CCS project, the BWMS shall have CCS type approval. Although, Techcross has been involved in a lot of Chinese owner’s projects so far based on its technology and quality of ECS. To dealing with the demands from more clients as well as stronger rules, Techcross tried to win the type approval. Many tests and documents are required to receive the Type Approval. Especially, in case of ECS, due to an issue related to H2 Gas, the classification society asks for safety test. Therefore, Techcross had conducted CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) test using several super computers for a month at KOMERI. This test was conducted in extreme situations such as slanted vessel about 15 degrees and operation in the vent blocked on 3 different vessel types. As a result, H2 Gas was detected below 0.1% which is much lower than Lower Explosive Limit (LEL/ 4%). It proves that Techcross’ ECS is risk-free system regarding H2 Gas even in these extreme environments. Also, it is first time to conduct safety test in this industry which has been demonstrated ECS’ safety officially. As of 24, JAN, 2017, Techcross has won Type Approvals from Japan, Liberia, Cyprus, the Korean Shipping of Register (KR), the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), the Russian maritime Register of Shipping (RS), the Bureau Veritas (BV), the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA), Lloyd’s Register (LR) and DNV & GL. Along with those approvals, Techcross tries to improve customer services as well as stabilization of quality.
