Techcross Renews ‘Smart Platform’ to Enhance AI-Powered Vessel Management
▲New Smart Platform Dashboard: The fleet is categorized into three status levels, allowing vessels that require attention to be identified at a glance.
▲Ship Monitor: Operational status, vessel track, and monthly reports for an individual vessel are consolidated on a single screen.
Techcross has completely renewed its Smart Platform, a dedicated web-based service for shipowners. The key focus of the renewal is to go beyond simply providing operational data from Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) by improving the information structure and data analytics functions, enabling users to identify vessel conditions and necessary actions more quickly.
The renewed Smart Platform categorizes the status of vessels within a shipowner’s fleet into three levels—Alert, Warn, and Normal—allowing users to immediately identify vessels that require priority attention. Information previously scattered across multiple web pages has also been reorganized into five main menus, enabling users to assess overall fleet conditions and determine whether action is required without having to review detailed data individually.
In particular, the platform applies AI-powered data analysis to provide key equipment conditions and recommended actions in clear, easy-to-understand language. When signs of abnormal conditions, such as declining electrode efficiency, are detected, the platform explains both the current condition and the recommended response instead of simply displaying numerical data. It also provides links to relevant troubleshooting manuals to support the initial response of shipowners and onboard
crews. This transforms the platform from a service used merely to “check” data into one that supports actual decision-making and corrective action.
Analytical functions have also been strengthened to improve maintenance efficiency. Monthly trends in electrode efficiency can be used to determine appropriate cleaning and replacement timing, while average TRO concentration can be analyzed together with neutralizing agent consumption to assess whether chemicals are being used appropriately. By reducing the need to separately download and process log files, the platform also makes shore-based equipment management more convenient and efficient.
In addition, customer convenience functions have been expanded to include monthly Alert emails and multilingual reports. The platform supports Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese, allowing users to receive key information on abnormalities and required inspections without directly accessing the
platform. It also provides account-based vessel management and customizable display settings for individual shipowners.
A Techcross representative said, “Rather than simply showing customers more data, this renewal focuses on providing the information they need first to make decisions and take action. Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our digital services based on accumulated operational data to improve equipment management efficiency and operational reliability for shipowners.”
Techcross Opens New Office in Nantong, China
Techcross opened a new office in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China, in September, taking another step toward strengthening its sales competitiveness and expanding localization efforts in the Chinese market.
Nantong is a key industrial hub in Jiangsu Province, home to a high concentration of major shipyards and shipbuilding and marine-related companies, while also offering excellent accessibility to Shanghai. Leveraging these geographical advantages, Techcross plans to respond more quickly to the needs of local customers, strengthen customer communication, and actively develop new business opportunities. While the existing Qingdao office focuses on onboard services and spare parts sales, the Nantong office will serve as a dedicated sales hub supporting the company’s business expansion in China.
China has recently been expanding its influence in the global shipbuilding market as a growingshare of global vessel orders is placed with Chinese shipyards. In particular, as Jiangsu Province andthe Shanghai area are considered key markets for global marine equipment companies, Techcrossplans to utilize its Nantong office as a hub to respond quickly to changes in the local market, whilesimultaneously supporting the stable market entry of not only its existing businesses but also newproducts and solutions to be introduced in the future.
The Head of Techcross’s Nantong Office said, “The Nantong office is a new sales base established to communicate more closely with customers in China’s rapidly evolving shipbuilding market. By strengthening our locally focused sales activities and customer support, we will reinforce relationships with existing customers while continuously identifying new business opportunities.”
Techcross Collaborates on K-Grid Development
Ahead of the development of Korea’s next-generation power grid (K-Grid), comprehensive environmental company Techcross has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for industry-academia cooperation with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) and JeaENG to develop water electrolysis system technology capable of responding to K-Grid and renewable energy grid fluctuations.
The signing ceremony, held on June 26 at KENTECH, was attended by representatives from each participating organization. The three parties agreed to cooperate in the successful implementation of K-Grid while developing water electrolysis system technologies capable of flexibly responding to fluctuations in renewable energy output and power system conditions.
K-Grid is a national next-generation power grid project designed to overcome the limitations of the existing power grid and secure more flexible grid operation technologies to support the expansion of renewable energy. Under this collaboration, KENTECH will lead the K-Grid project as part of a government initiative, Techcross will provide water electrolysis systems and core technologies, and JeaENG will contribute its integrated EPC and O&M capabilities for hydrogen infrastructure. Together, the three organizations aim to establish a new model for energy technology development
through industry-academia collaboration.
This project aims to establish an integrated technology ecosystem that links the power grid, water electrolysis, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen utilization into a single system, with a total R&D budget of KRW 50 billion to be invested over three years beginning in 2026. As the share of renewable energy continues to increase, hydrogen is gaining attention as a key energy source capable of flexibly connecting intermittent renewable energy with the power grid. Water electrolysis systems can convert surplus electricity into hydrogen while simultaneously serving as controllable load resources that help stabilize the power system. Since the hydrogen produced can be stored and later converted back into electricity using fuel cells when needed, water electrolysis is recognized as a core technology for mitigating the intermittency of renewable energy and enhancing grid stability. This is precisely why Techcross’s
water electrolysis technology plays such a critical role in this project.
Regarding the project, which is expected to become a milestone of Korea’s energy transition through K-Grid, Techcross stated: “Based on the electrolysis technology and engineering expertise we have accumulated over the years, we will do our utmost to contribute to the successful implementation of K-Grid and the advancement of the future green hydrogen industry.”
Award News① Receives Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award at the Korea Environment Awards
Techcross received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award on July 9 in recognition of its sustainability management initiatives aimed at embedding ESG principles into its business operations, with a focus on sustainable corporate growth. Techcross previously received the same award in 2013. While the 2013 award recognized the company’s innovative environmental technologies and equipment that contributed to the protection of marine ecosystems, this year’s award recognized its achievements in sustainable management practices.
Award News② Receives Deputy Prime Minister’s Commendation at Technology Developers’ Day
At the 2026 Technology Developers’ Day ceremony held in Yeouido, Seoul, on September 7, Koo Jahoon, Principal Researcher at the Techcross R&D Center, received the Deputy Prime Minister’s Commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT in recognition of his contributions to the development of electrode modules for BWMS and water electrolysis stacks. The first time of Technology Developers’ Day was established to recognize individuals who have contributed to technological innovation and advancement in Korea’s private sector and to promote further technology development.
